Unit Purpose
In this unit you will develop the skills and knowledge you need to identify, interpret and respond to interpersonal communication cues about routine matters in a range of workplace, educational and community situations. You will be able to select appropriate communication strategies to respond to others and develop positive relationships in these situations.
Requirements to successfully complete this unit of competency
Assessment for this unit of competency will require you to provide a range of evidence to your teacher. The range of possible evidence required can include written or oral presentations, reports and personal journal. You will take part in interactions with workplace or community colleagues or take part in simulations of workplace or community organisation. The details of assessment will be provided by your class teacher.
To achieve this unit of competency you must be able to:
· identify the ways in which workplace culture determines interaction in the workplace/ community organisation
· evaluate the role of self- perception in effective interpersonal communication
· interpret and respond to patterns of organisational behaviour
· use group processes relevant to the organisation to build interpersonal relationships
· propose communication strategies to deal with cross cultural issues in the organisation.
You can demonstrate competency in this unit in a community, educational or workplace setting. Assessment of this unit of competency may be integrated with the assessment of other units of competency.
